Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship

Phi Theta Kappa's Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship will help Phi Theta Kappa members overcome unanticipated financial barriers preventing the completion of a student’s first college credential, an associate degree or certificate, while enrolled in college. Up to fifteen (15), one-time $1,000 Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarships are awarded annually.

This scholarship was created by a collaborative effort between benefactors Rosemary and Lou Oberndorf, the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, and 2011-2012 International Officers Tameka Wilson, Danielle Swartz, Esteban Smith, Sarah Yates and Jeremy Mathis.

Eligibility – Students MUST:

  • Be currently enrolled in a minimum of six (6) semester credit hours [or nine (9) quarter credit hours] of associate degree, college-level coursework at the time of application.
  • Be a Phi Theta Kappa member in good standing.
  • Hold a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0 at the time of application on all college-level coursework completed.
    • Include all transcripts.  GPA is evaluated at the time of application, and no courses can be marked as incomplete.
  • Graduate within 18 months from the time of application.
  • NOT hold a previous associate or bachelor’s degree from any college.
  • Have encountered an unanticipated financial barrier, such as catastrophic loss, natural disaster, onset of a major illness or injury, change in dependent status, or loss of income resulting in a financial hardship within the past six (6) months.
  • Have completed a minimum of 45 college-level semester credit hours (or the quarterly equivalent).
    • College-level credit hours completed AND hours “currently in progress” are counted as completed to calculate the hours remaining toward completion.
