Become a Faculty Scholar

Next Opportunity

We'd love for you to be among our next group of Faculty Scholars! Look for the application late July 2021.

The Honors Institute is an annual international Phi Theta Kappa event. The event features fascinating speakers, small group seminars, educational field trips and experiential activities.

Faculty Scholar Benefits

Faculty Scholars often refer to this experience as one of the best professional development opportunities in which they have participated. Benefits often include the following:

  • Increasing one’s knowledge and understanding of Phi Theta Kappa
  • Being challenged and inspired by the questions and comments from conscientious colleagues and honor students with varied backgrounds
  • Developing ideas to enhance chapter and regional Honors in Action programming
  • Gathering ideas, study questions and bibliographies to be used in their own classrooms

Selection

Selection of Faculty Scholars will be based primarily on the quality of the application. We are particularly looking for candidates with the following characteristics:

  • Experience facilitating small-group discussions
  • Intellectual curiosity and empathy and interest in Phi Theta Kappa’s Honors Study Topic and Leadership Development Program
  • Understanding of and/or willingness to learn about Honors in Action (HiA) to facilitate discussions about ways to connect Honors Institute programming and chapter development of HiA projects
  • Diversity of intellectual perspective, religion, education, socio-economic status, culture, race, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, disability status, veteran status and family status, length of service to Phi Theta Kappa, geographic location, and field of study is indispensable to our vision of ensuring an inclusive class of Faculty Scholars.

Preparation

Faculty Scholars receive intensive training and preparation to serve in their roles. Advisors selected as Faculty Scholars must attend both the full 2021 Faculty Scholar Conference and 2021 Honors Institute.

  • Faculty Scholar Conference – The 2021 Faculty Scholar Conference will be held just prior to the 2021 Honors Institute.
